WELCOME! My name is Sheri. I’m an Occupational Therapist by day and a sewing, plant and DIY enthusiast by night. I have a true passion for quilting and garment construction. I was introduced to sewing around the age of 10 where my mother purchased my first sewing machine found at a neighborhood garage sale. I remember being so excited and wanting to go to the nearest fabric shop to purchase clothing patterns and fabric of course! Fast forward years later where life happened and I went on to pursue my education and career with my Masters in Occupational Therapy and did not take up sewing again until I was 32. Now in my mid-thirties, I have truly found my passion for sewing and have really focused my attention on all things sewing.

Sewdium was created to share my enthusiasm for sewing home décor pieces such as placemats, table runners, quilts, among many other items. When looking for ways to decorate my home, I would peruse the aisles of stores, but could never really find pieces that stood out, so I decided to make them myself! By all means, I’m not a sewing expert, but take my experiences and mistakes as learning opportunities. In this blog, I’ll share projects I’m creating and hope you’ll join me on this journey! Plus I’ll share sewing tips and resources that helped me along the way. Whether you’re a college student looking to make unique budget-friendly décor for your dorm or a seasoned homeowner looking for new ways to spruce up your home, I hope to inspire you to be creative and take control of your own décor. Additionally, I’ll also share my love for plants and other DIY projects along the way!

Heck no! How many times have you repaired a hole in a piece of clothing for yourself, a family member or friend? Once, a few times or more…if this is the case, sewing is definitely not an obsolete hobby or skill. As long as I see seams in everyday items like clothing and pillowcases, sewing whether by hand or machine is definitely always in style.

Of course you’re able to buy that top, those placemats, or whatever your heart desires at the store, but you’d definitely miss out on the reward and uniqueness factor that sewing for yourself brings. Sewing also allows you to be able to repurpose those old ripped jeans into something new instead of having them sit in your closet forever or throwing them away. Sew get out there and start sewing!!! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
